Senior Citizens

Senior Citizens is an organisation that arranges activities for the over 65s living in Elvington.

We have monthly lunches, normally held in the Village Hall, at 12.30 pm on the first Friday of every month.  As an alternative, we sometimes go out to local restaurants, with transport laid on by the group.  We also have occasional outings, a garden party in the summer and a Christmas party.

This is a lively, vibrant group and has recently been awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in recognition of our activities.

If you feel that you would like to be involved please contact a committee member.  From time to time there may be a waiting list but in this event you would be asked for contact details so that we could keep in touch with you.

Elvington Senior Citizens – History

Elvington Senior Citizens was formed in the early 1960s by a group led by Hubert Jefferson and Edna and Charles Newell.

Originally there was just a party at Christmas and an outing in the summer but it has evolved over the years to provide, as outlined above, a year-round programme.

Elvington Senior Citizens – Fund Raising

Many activities are subsidised and the Committee arranges fund raising events to support these activities.  Our main fund raiser is the Annual Christmas Craft Fair and we encourage you to support it.

Please support our fund raising activities – we do appreciate your involvement.
